Which type of a dehumidifier is better for use?

What is a Dehumidifier? Dehumidifiers are household appliances that help reduce the humidity levels in the air. There are primarily two types of humidifiers – desiccant and mechanical.

Desiccant dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air by using a desiccant; a material which easily attracts and holds water vapor such as silica gel which naturally absorbs moisture. Desiccant dehumidifiers are appropriately designed without compressors for removing moisture from air at a low temperature and low humidity level.

Mechanical dehumidifiers also known as compressor dehumidifiers are refrigeration based, are more efficient, and are like ordinary air conditioners with both the hot and cold coils in the same box.  The room’s air is drawn by a fan over the cold coil of the AC to condense the moisture, and is collected into a bucket. Dry air will then pass through the hot coil to heat it back up to its original temperature. Therefore, mechanical dehumidifiers will slightly raise the air temperature, as opposed to air conditioners, which will cool the air as it dehumidifies it.

Both desiccant and refrigeration based dehumidifiers work most efficiently together. The advantages of each compensate for the limitations of the other.

Economically suitable

Compressor dehumidifiers are more economical than desiccants at high temperatures and high moisture levels. In general mechanical refrigeration systems are seldom used for applications below 45%RH as they tend to form ice on the coil also reducing the moisture removal capacity causing expensive replacements.

On the other hand, desiccant dehumidifiers are more economical than refrigeration based dehumidifiers at lower temperatures and lower moisture levels. Typically, a desiccant system is utilized for applications below 45%RH down to 1%RH.

Works well in both cold and warm climates:

The compressor dehumidifiers are really built for a warm ambient temperature, but the desiccant dehumidifiers will maintain a superior standard of performance in both warm and cold ambient temperatures.

Low noise levels:

Desiccant dehumidifiers are not built with a compressor, hence are generally quieter in operation.

Low energy consumption:

Compressor dehumidifiers consume less energy per hour and are thus generally cheaper to run.

Portability and durability

Desiccant dehumidifiers are comparatively durable due to their simpler mode of operation and are lighter in weight usually with handles given for easy portability.

If you are in the process of choosing a dehumidifier in Dubai you may search the internet. Most companies dealing in misting system and fogging pumps also offer appliances like air conditioners and dehumidifiers etc.
